   本書はTCP/IPの詳細について述べたものである。TCP/IPの各プロトコルについて物理層からアプリケーション層に至るまでの各階層について順番に述べていく構成をとっており、原理的な側面からではなく機能的な部分を中心に解説している。内容はプロトコル単体についての詳細な説明からアプリケーション層での応用、そしてWAN通信のプロトコルと安全なインターネット環境の構築、IPv6について述べられており、スタンダードなプロトコルはほぼ網羅されている。

   本書の特徴は、各プロトコルのパケットの構造を詳細に解説している点。UNIX系のOSで使用できるtcpdumpを利用した出力結果を掲載して、その図を中心に解説しているので、自分で実験をしながら理解を深めることができる。ネットワークを構築する場合やメンテナンスをする際には、パケットの内容を解析するこれらの技能、知識が重要になってくるので、本書は大きな助けになるだろう。また、用語集や公式インターネットプロトコル標準RFC、参考文献が付録として収録されており、知識不足で読み進めることができない人への配慮もされている。

   本書は同シリーズの入門編、インターネットワーク編に続く応用編として位置づけられている。内容はかなり専門的な部分にまで踏み込んでいるため、ある程度の経験がある中級以上のネットワーク技術者向けだろう。プロトコルのメカニズムについての説明が主となっているので、セキュリティに関する内容はフィルタリングを中心としたものにとどまっているが、TCP/IP解説書としての内容は非常に充実している。TCP/IPの実践的な知識、技能を身につけたい方には有用な1冊。（斎藤牧人）

TCP/IPについて、もっと詳しく知りたい、と思った方は買ったほうがいいと思います。大きさは結構大きいので持ち歩くには不便ですが、その分内容は非常に細かく丁寧に書いてありますので、初心者の方でも読めるのではないでしょうか。こういった詳細本が一冊くらいほしい、とお思いの方でしたら、ぜひお勧めしたいと思います。ルーティングプロトコル（IGRP、OSPF）なども載っていますので、CCNA、CCNPを受験の方にもいいと思います。

TCP/IPに関連するとても多くのプロトコルの詳細が書かれています。それらのプロトコルのパケットPDUなどネットワークプログラマーが知りたい内容が図も交えて詳しく解説されています。 仕事でネットワークのプログラムをする機会が多いのですが、その際に非常に役に立っています。

非常にボリュームがあってビビリますが内容はとても丁寧に書かれているのでゼンゼン難しくありません。TCP/IPの入門書を読み終えた人は、この本を1冊持っておけば他には必要ないかなと思えるほどいい本です。

TCP/IPネットワークを管理する方や、すでにTCP/IPの概要を知っていて実際のネットワークを勉強しようとする初学者とって、手元にいつも置いておきたい一冊です。

この本の構成は各プロトコル毎に説明されており、TCP/IPのネットワークを調査する際に非常に引きやすく、詳細に説明しているため障害調査時などによく利用しています。

また、特筆すべきは実際にプロトコルアナライザの実データを載せており、TCP/IP学習を学習する上で非常に有益な内容となっております。
