   夢想家のベリーは、学生時代からの念願がかなって家族でホテル経営を始めるが、娘フラニーの強姦事件、父の急死、経営難と悲劇が続いてしまう。そこでオーストリアに移住し再出発をしようと試みた矢先、今度は飛行機が墜落してしまう。
   ジョン・アービングの小説を、トニー・リチャードソン監督が映画化、ホテル・ニューハンプシャーを経営する家族の日常をとりとめもなく描いているように見えるが、実はとんでもない不幸に見舞われた家族の物語である。それでもこの映画が爽快な後味を与えるのは、災難も人生のうち、とナチュラルで前向きに生きるベリー一家の姿がさりげなく、されどきちんと描かれているからであろう。レイプされたフラニー（ジョディ・フォスター）を見舞う弟のジョン（ロブ・ロウ）。「何か必要なもの、ある？」「…昨日までの私を」。心臓に突き刺さるようなセリフである。（斉藤守彦）

ジョン アーヴィングが原作者です。映画化されたのは、他に「ガープの世界」などがありますが、こちらの方がハラハラドキドキします。
ジョディ・フォスターのファンであれば、必見です。
レイプや近親相姦を扱っているのに、全然暗さがなく、笑えます。
「ガープの世界」より爽快ですよ。

「それでもなんとか、生きていくしかないのだ」と、最後のセリフどうり、いろいろなエピソードが巻き起こる。レイプあり自殺あり革命組織あり爆発ありの、そして、極めつけの青春映画でもある。注目すべき点は、暗くなりがちな１つ１つのピソードを、とてもポップにゆる〜く乗り越えるところだ。最近の邦画「嫌われ松子」みたいな。現在、失恋や失業や、思うに決まらない未来など、人生と格闘中の人にお薦めの１本。あなたを取り巻いている不幸の全ては、この１本に詰まっている。これは「素敵な不幸の玉手箱」だ。

…とはいうものの、現実の人生は非常に厳しい。
だけど、紆余曲折の人生を送ろうとも、朝の風は爽やか。

そんな映画です。

エキセントリックな描写が多いですが、どこかコミカル。
それを笑うのか憂うのか不思議がるのか、それはこの映画を観ている者に委ねています。
最初観た時は、犬のソローの屁に大笑いしてたんですが、それだけでは終わらない映画です。

この映画を観終わって、人生観が変わるヒトは、僕だけじゃないと思いますよ。
