あのA・ウォーホルによるイラストを使ったお洒落なジャケット・デザインが個性的で、ブルーノート作品群の中でも目を引く。
一応Burrellの名義のアルバムだが、様様なメンバーとのセッションを集めたもので、彼個人のプレイを満喫というものでは無い。
しかしセッションの面子自体が所謂オールスター物とはちょっと違い、フロントに３人配置してそれが、Louis Smith/Junior Cook/Tina Brooksという結構渋いラインだったりしてかなり面白い。
曲もイケイケのセッションというより、抑え気味の感じでBurrellやジャケットのもつ都会的かつ洗練、という雰囲気を壊さない。
その中で、ピアノ・トリオをバックにギターのみで演奏される「Autumn in New York」は絶品。感傷に流されず、都会的でありながらも哀愁が匂い立つような正にこの曲のためのプレイをみせてくれます！

もちろん、聴き物は「ニューヨークの秋」と「キャラバン」だ。古き良き時代のケニー・バレル。グラント・グリーンやウエス・モンゴメリーに較べてブルージーだけど、さっぱり、さわやかなのがバレルの身上。アルフレッド・ライオン時代のブルーノートで、ジャケは、あのアンディー・ウォーホルの若き日の作品。よってジャケットだってありがたい。続編のＶＯＬ．２はピンクのジャケット。（松本敏之）
