「箒星」で見せた「最強のポップ」、「しるし」で見せた「至上のラブソング」
そして今作「フェイク」ではミスチルのひとつの側面「ねじれロック」を披露してくれています。

ミスチルの特徴でもある“ブルースぽさ”のある、ガムのようにねじれながら伸びるメロディーラインが麻薬のように耳を刺激します。
サウンドは、洗練されていながらもどこか生臭さが漂っていて、加工されたボーカルとともに歌詞世界を表現しているように感じます。
メロディー・サウンド展開としては「モンスター」（アルバム「アイラブユー」収録）に若干似ていますが、
完成度は雲泥の差。音楽のウネリみたいなものがまったく違います。
歌詞は・・・自分で判断してください。桜井さんらしいというか、なんというか、生々しいですね。（笑）

「箒星」「しるし」「フェイク」と並べてみると、なんとなく“役者はそろったな”という気がしてなりません。

まだ全部は通しで聴いてはいないのですが、それでも素晴らしい仕上がりだと思います。
よく引き合いに出される『掌』がメッセージを外へ外へと拡散していくような、感情を表に出していく
楽曲だったのに対し、『フェイク』は逆にその感情を内へグッと閉じ込めるような、
抑制を効かせた仕上がりになっているのが面白いです。
今作のメッセージ性の強い歌詞（結構危うい表現もある）が逆にダンサンブルでポップなメロディーの上に乗り、
それを桜井が抑制を効かせて歌い上げることで、曲全体にある種の不敵さとけだるさが漂っていて
歌詞を越えた部分で曲の世界観を伝えてきます。
それは一見華やかな文明社会（＝ポップなメロディー）とそこに生きる人々（＝桜井の歌詞と声）が
奏でる現代社会の縮図であるかのようです。といのはちょっと言い過ぎましたが、ポップなのに毒が効いてて、
ダンサンブルなのにどこかけだるくて、そんな魅力的な曲である事は間違いなさそうです。
それと、余談ですが、ミスチルのニューアルバムが春に出るそうです！そちらも楽しみです。

　世の中の何もかもにむしゃくしゃして，自分の思い通りにならない事を，最もとげとげしい言葉にしてあちこちにぶちまけていく。

　そんなのいやだ，恋をしてもいつもフェイク，まがいもの，かるく火遊び，いつも自分をごまかしてポーカーフェイス。

　真実の愛なんて，どこにもない，からぶりばかり。

　この曲を聴いていると，そんな苛立ちがクリアに伝わってくる・・・。


　でも，いつも空振りでも，何度か練習すれば，もしかしたら，ヒットやホームランの愛に出会えるかもしれませんね。
