　本書に、小林よしのりや牛村圭へのきちんとした対応を期待するおめでたい人びともいるかもしれないが、そんなものはない。学問は、細部の積み重ねから成るものだが、西部と中島は、ひたすら細部をごまかし、誰がそうしているのか主語を欠いたまま「左翼は何々」といった朦朧体での批判を行い、自分らへの批判には答えず、パールの思想がどうの、それは保守派としていいのかどうか、といった雑駁な駄弁を弄しているだけである。

はっきり言って、失望というより絶望した。 何故なら、小林よしのりらによる『パール論争』における根本的な批判に全く本書が答えていないからだ。ただ単に「自称保守派」なる漠然とした対象に向けて、西部と中島が“お説教”という名の自己弁護に終止しているだけである。そもそも中島は、まがいなりにも学者ではないのか? そうならば、何故、小林らによる批判に真っ正面から「論文」という形式で受けて立たないのか?対談形式で、西部に援護してもらわなければ、持論も展開出来ないのか? この二人は「自嘲保守派」の形容が相応しいと、残念ながら言わざるを得ない。

判決書がパールの生い立ちと結びついているという暴論を展開。
「パル論争」への回答どころか、余計に「パル判決」観を歪めているとしか思えない。
