ジョージ・ハリスンとエリック・クラプトン。
二人の芸術家の創作の秘密を、元妻のパティ・ボイドがわずか
に捉えた部分が興味深かったです。

たとえばハリスンは、他人の音楽が無意識に頭に入ってこない
ようにするため、家では他人の音楽を流さないように注意して
いたらしい。クラプトンはその点は全くお構いなし。

クラプトンは他人への配慮がばったりとなくなるときがあって、
どうやらそういうときには頭のなかで創作が始まっているらし
いとか、寝ている間にも足でリズムをとっていることがあった
などというエピソード。

「普通の」人間にはわがままに思えるような態度にも、それな
りの理由が幾分かはあるのかも、と妙に納得しました。
しかし、こういう人たちの妻であったのは、さぞかし大変だっ
たことでしょう。元夫の女性関係などの話は、あたかもロック
ンロールな源氏物語（！？）のようで圧倒されます。

とても読みやすいので、ビートルズやクラプトンが好きな人は
一度読んでみてはどうでしょうか。意外とおもしろいです。私
はこの本を読んで、特にジョージ・ハリスンに好感を持ちまし
たよ。

貴重な写真がアメリカ版ではカラーで紹介されていたのに、この邦訳版では単色のものとなってしまったのが大変残念。ジョージとリンゴの妻モーリンとの浮気とそれを知ったリンゴのうろたえる様子など、暴露的な内容が多い。後半はそのようなものが多いため、ビートルズ・ファンやクラプトンのファンが読んだらうんざりするのでは？また、帯にも本文にも「サムシング」がパティのために作られた曲とあるが、1991年、日本公演を前にしたジョージに日本のTV局がインタビューした時、彼はそれをきっぱりと否定している。

「サムシング」「いとしのレイラ」という、正にロック史に残る名曲に歌われたミューズの自伝。ロックファンにとってはジョージとクラプトンとの三角関係のみに興味が集中するので、400ページを越すボリュームが内容的に値するものがあるのか？と思って読み始めたが、当時のロンドンの先進的は雰囲気やモデルとして活躍した本人の逸話などそれなりに楽しめる。ロックファンは彼らに劇的な人生を期待するが、ご当人達の生活は一般人のそれとさほど変わりなく淡々と流れそれが語られていく。これは「クラプトン自伝」でも同様に感じた。そんな日常の中で「サムシング」や「いとしのレイラ」を生み出せる天才達が存在するということなのか。ロックファンであれば一読の価値はあり。表紙も良い。
