(You must have one of the Battle Cast Sets to play this game)
I do not like collectable games. But I like shogi, shogi variants, and Dragonball, so I thought that I would give this a try. My focus is not so much on the gameplay, but on the quality of the figures.
Opening the first figure (Trunks!), I was very excited opening the others and seeing everyone emerge. Imagine my surprise when I got the dragon, Shen Long! When I finished, I discovered that I had the entire set from one box! Excellent!
For those that care, the scale of the figures is a little off. The heights and proportions are a bit wrong, especially noticable when setting characters side-by-side (like Tien Shin Han looks a bit too "chibi" and Ginyu isn't nearly tall enough), but it doesn't bother me. It is strongly remeniscent of the manga, and that's very cool.
In gameplay, the only thing that bothers me is that the movement grid is behind characters, making it a little hard for opponents to see, but the gameboard is small enough that this isn't such a big deal. The shogi variant is simple and fun. These characters add a lot of different movement grids to the board and are a welcome addition!
I really wish that Dragon Quest would get similar treatment: I like collecting characters, but I want to play games with them! If you enjoy Dragon Ball, then you should get this--and hopefully you'll luck out and get all of the characters in one box! Looking forward to the next one!
