セルバンテス
1547~1616。スペインの作家。下級貴族の次男として生まれる。読書漬けの少年時代を過ごすが、青年時代にはスペイン軍に入隊し捕虜生活も経験する。本国に戻った後、作家活動に入り、後世の文学に多大な影響を与えた。代表作『ドン・キホーテ』は聖書に次ぐ世界的ロングセラー小説である(本データはこの書籍が刊行された当時に掲載されていたものです)

前半から中盤にかけては妄想老人の単なるドタバタ劇にしか見えないが、最後まで読んでこの本の深遠なテーマを知ると、なぜ現代まで読み継がれてきたのかわかった気がした。ぜひ一度、原作に挑戦しよう。

まんがが好きでよく読みますが、有名な文学作品をまんがで読むのは少し後ろめたいです。でも有名なドンキホーテがどんな話なのかよくわかりました。風車へ立ち向かうとかそういう断片と、近代小説のはしり、といったような評価が頭の中で一致しませんでしたが、それなりにわかり、勉強になりました。そのうち小説を読むかもしれませんが、その前に「プルースト」を読んでみようかと。

ドン・キホーテ(本名アロンソ・キハーダ)の行動原理が
最後まで読むと謎がとけ感情移入できました。
騎士道物語にとりつかれている彼を心配するまわりの人々も暖かい。
私も本を読むのが好きなので、ここまで愛読できる物語がある主人公に、
なんだか親しみを感じました。
ほりの深い絵柄は味があって好きですが、
もしかしたら好みが分かれるかもしれません。
