When I first heard of the manga Devilman, I only knew, of his super robot series UFO Robot Grendizer which, in Canada and France, is called Goldorak. Hearing about the huge popularity of Devilman, I searched everywhere for a copy. But the only one I could find was the OVAS. I watched them both and really enjoyed them. But when I finally managed to purchase the first manga volume, then get the other four for Christmas 2004, my expectations were confirmed. Devilman is Go Nagai's biggest masterpiece. The story's atmosphere is perfect and is a great allegory of the draft system in the Vietnam war and which still occurs today in the war against terrorism. Only in Devilman, the terrorists are demons. As for the ending, the punch was so great that I felt upset by it for a quite a few days. So if you ever want to give this series to a friend or family member, DO NOT tell them anything about the story. For the quality of the story in Devilman is one of a lifetime.
