   1970年代初期に活躍していたカルトバンド、ロケット・フロム・ザ・トゥームのチーター・クローム＆ジョニー・ブリッツに、スティヴ・ベイターズ、ジミー・ゼロ、ジェフ・マグナムが加わりデッド・ボーイズを結成。ニューヨークパンクの中心的ライヴハウス“CBGB”での熱演に火が着いて1977年にメジャーデビューを果たすものの、わずか2枚のアルバムを残して1978年に解散。
   本作は、彼らの記念すべきデビューアルバムの日本盤初CD化作品で、スリリングなバンド演奏にダミ声ヴォーカルがさく裂する<1>、勢いバリバリのパンクロック<3>など、過激なパフォーマンスとバンクスピリットあふれる演奏を武器に「ニューヨークのセックス・ピストルズ」と称えられた、まさに絶頂期の名盤である。（速藤年正）

パンク系ロッカー達の３大カリスマと言われる、スティーヴベイターが結成したパンクバンド。「ストゥージス」のコピーバンドを経てジミーゼロ達と結成した「フランケンシュタイン」が前身。来米していたダムドの前座で認知されましたが、この１ｓｔはまだストゥージスの影響を受けていたのか荒々しさと勢いで溢れています。スティーヴは後の２ｎｄやソロ（「IT'S COLD OUTSIDE」「NOT THAT WAY ANYMORE」、SHAM69のジミーパーシー等との「FACTORY BOY」「LALA」）、ブライアンジェイムス（ダムド）、デイブトレグナ（シャム６９）等と結成した「ローズオブザニューチャーチ」でその本来のポップセンスが出てきて、個人的にはそちらのスティーヴが好きですが、ニューヨークのピストルズと言われた当時のこの１ｓｔもパンクファンには必聴です。ジミーゼロも楽曲センスがあり、２ｎｄの「I WANT LOOK BACK」も良い曲です。スティーヴは９０年に交通事故で他界しますが、親友のマイケルモンローが「DEMOLITION23」の中で謳った「DEAD TIME STORY」（スティーヴの曲の歌詞を繋ぎ合わせて、作り上げた。亡きスティーヴに捧げるバラード）は必聴。「LORDS OF THE NEW CHURCH」の「LIVE FOR TODAY」で「今日を生きよう、明日の事なんか気にするな（訳）」と歌うスティーヴの声にしみじみとしてきます。
