スポーツや楽器の演奏などと同じように、デザインも「デザインすること」を繰り返さなければうまくはなりません。考え、手を動かして制作し、制作したものを冷静に見直すということの繰り返しが重要です。ところが、グラフィックデザインの場合は、デザインする対象が必要なので、デザインをトレーニングすることは容易ではありませんでした。本書では、用意された素材をもとに課題に取り込むことで、画面構成やタイポグラフィー、カラーコーディネートなどのグラフィックデザインで必要な事柄を、バランスよくトレーニングできるように構成されています。また、これらのトレーニングを通じて、「デザインを論理的に構成する」ということはどういうことかを、理論と実践の両面から、理解し、体感していただければと思います。

私は一応、プロとしてグラフィックデザインをやっています。
タイトルからするとかなりデザイン入門書的なニュアンスがありますが、
書いてある内容はかなり本質的で、そこそこやっている私でも（まだ未熟なせいかもしれませんが）かなり目から鱗が落ちました。
この手の本は最近やたらと出版されてますが私の知るかぎり、これは”デザインの一番わかりやすい本質的な答え”について丁寧に書かれた貴重な本だと思います。
正直、初心者の方よりも、私のように職業としてデザインをやっている方におすすめの良書だと思います。

色彩計画、カラーパレットの章が特に役立ちました。
配色の本を読んでもいまひとつピンとこなかったトーンについて、この本の説明の3行程度で納得しました。
また、実際にカラーパレットを作ってみてよりいっそう理解できました。
苦手意識が強かった色選びも自由に考えられるようになったのが自分には一番の収穫です。
デザインを勉強したことがなく、いつもこれでいいのだろうかと悩んでいたのですが、「押さえどころ」をわかりやすく教えてもらった感じがします。

ずっと僕が疑問だった、Illustratorの色パレットの使い方に関して、自分の色パレット制作の方法であるとか、その使用法であるとかについての示唆が、とても参考になりました。デザイナーとしての考え方がとなりにデザイナーの方にいていただきながら習っているような感じで、楽しみながら制作できるという流れが、面白かった。僕にとってはちょっとしたIllustrator使用法革命でした。
