アメリカのある世代では、ケネディ大統領が暗殺された、またはその報に接したとき、どこにいたか覚えている人が多いと聞きますが、我々の世代では、ジョン・レノン暗殺の瞬間、またはその報に接したときということになるでしょう。私は銀座を歩いていてニュースの見出しを見たときでした。その悲しい記憶とともにある作品ですが、作品自体はジョンとヨーコの共作の中では最高ですし、何よりもジョンの新しいスタートをきるぞ、という意気込みが感じられます。その冒頭の曲と、彼の５年間の主夫生活を総括した「ウォッチング・ザ・ホイールズ」、「ビューティフル・ボーイ」という息子への愛を吐露した曲、そして「ウーマン」というヨーコ、いやすべての女性に対する賛歌といえるスケールの大きな曲はＬＰで何度聴いたことか。このような美しい曲を生み出せる偉大な才能を失ったことはあまりにも惜しまれることですが、この紙ジャケの作品で改めてジョンの生涯に思いをはせ、家族そして世界に惜しみない愛をそそいだジョンの姿勢のいくらかでも見習いたいと考えています。

《ジョン・レノン》は苦手なアーティストなのだが、『ジョンの魂』は、無条件で名盤だと思う。でも、ジョンの作品の中で一番好きなアルバムは、この『ダブル・ファンタジー』だったりする。《孤高のカリスマ》ジョン・レノンよりも、しっかり《家庭人》してるジョン・レノンの方が好感が持てるし、また《オノ・ヨーコ》さんの曲も素晴らしい。これも、いわゆる《隠れ名盤》の一つなので、興味のある方には、オススメします。そこで私も、短歌を一首、詠んでみました。
