ソフトウェアテスト293の鉄則 [単行本]

   ときおり現れるソフトウェアの不具合は、我々にテストの重要性を改めて教えてくれる。しかし、そのテストは本当に意味のあるものなのだろうか。近年は専門のテストチームを持つ会社も増えてきたが、開発者がテスターを兼ねることの多い日本では、まだまだテストそのものを充分に掘り下げ、それぞれのケースにおけるベストプラクティスを見つけようと試みる機会が少ない気がしてならない。アーキテクチャの進化や開発サイクルの変化に対応し、柔軟かつ効果的にテスト方法を見直すのがベストなのだが、COBOL時代からの方法をそのまま使い続ける会社も決して少なくはないのが実際である。

   本書にはタイトル通り293の「鉄則」が収められている。11章からなるが、章立ては読者に読む順番を強制するものではなく、むしろ重みのバラバラな「鉄則」をテーマごとに大きく括っている。決して通読が必須の本ではないし、ましてや「この本に沿って作業を進めれば君も一人前のテスト技術者だ」といったハウツーものでは決してない。一つひとつの「鉄則」を自分の関わったプロジェクトに当てはめ、自分の取ろうとしている手段が本当に正しいかどうかを顧みるきっかけとなる。

   ソフトウェア開発やテストの経験が少ない人にはピンとこないかもしれない。しかし、ソフトウェアテストに意欲的に関わろうとしている人にとっては、入門書的だった『基本から学ぶソフトウェアテスト』から一歩進んで多くのヒントを得ることができる1冊だ。（大脇太一）

ソフトウェアテスト293の鉄則
テスト技法，グループ管理，技術者のキャリア，テスト戦略などソフトウエア開発のテスト工程をテーマに，293個の提言／教訓／ノウハウを“鉄則”としてまとめた書籍。「極端な条件でのバグはセキュリティ上の潜在的なリスク」「テスト計画は戦略，段取り，成果物の三位一体と心得よ」といった実践的なもの，「テストとは探求することだ」といった哲学めいたもの，「部下を残業で苦しめるな」という管理者へのアドバイスといったものまで，さまざまな鉄則を扱っている。もっとも，すべての鉄則に従う必要はなく，読み手の状況に応じて役に立ちそうなものを選ぶといいだろう。

　鉄則によっては，テストについてある程度の経験と知識がないと理解できないものもある。その意味で初心者より，テスト業務に携わる人，特に管理者レベルの人に向いている。日本におけるテスト事情を補足した訳注が親切で役に立つ。
