スポーツジャーナリスト。1955年横浜市生まれ。成城大学文芸学部在学中より少年サッカーの指導を始め、卒業後、社会人から高校生までを一貫指導するクラブを立ち上げる。その後、日産FC(現横浜F・マリノス)のコーチングスタッフ、スポーツ専門誌の編集を経てフリーとなり、サッカーを中心とした執筆活動を展開(本データはこの書籍が刊行された当時に掲載されていたものです)

「結果が全てではない」と言いながら、幼い頃から競技スポーツとして勝敗にこだわって勝敗が全てとする教育を行い、体力の無い子供たちを排除し、それを全てと見せてしまうようなシステム。「フェアプレー精神」などと謳いながらも実際にはドーピングなどをはじめとした不正が蔓延しているトップアスリート達の世界・・・。
「運動離れ」を嘆き、それをゲームだとかテレビなどと言ったメディアの責任だ、などと責任を別の場所に転嫁する書は多いが、そもそものスポーツ環境に目を向けたこの書の存在は貴重だろう。現在のスポーツ環境そのものが、「運動離れ」を促進させている現実が良くわかる。

多少、自分の個人的な体験や伝聞をそのまま一般化させてしまっているのが目立つとか、実態を把握した上での解決案が「全員に個々の目標を持たせ、楽しさを知ってもらおう」という、ある種の理想論・ノスタルジィ的発想なのが残念。
とはいえ、極めて意味の大きな書だと思う。

　子供たちの成長を願うことが、どんな形であるべきか。スポーツ指導の側面から、現在の日本のかなり深刻な状態を捕らえている良著だ。スポーツも過度な競争原理下に置かれ、そのあおりが子供たちに降りかかっている。受験の過熱と、その根が通ずるという指摘に大きく共感を覚えた。親が子供を駆り立てる今の風潮を、真剣に考え直していくことが重要であることを、次著「少年スポーツ、だめな指導者、バカな親」でさらに告発する筆者の考えに、うなづかされた。併せて読むことを薦めたい。国連「子供の権利委員会」から２度にわたって「過度な競争について国としての改善勧告」を受けているこの日本の現状を、明快に浮き彫りにしていると思う。ＴＶをはじめ多くのマスコミが競争原理容認に傾く中、こうした出版物のあることを大切にしたい。大人の意識が変われば、目の下に隈を作り、無気力と疲れにあえぐこどもたちの顔に、輝きが戻るのではないか。それを示唆している本だ。

考えさせられますね。
子供にどのようにスポーツを教えていくか、
全生涯にわたってスポーツを感じるようにするか、
そういうことを考えさせる本だと思います。
本書で一貫して流れる考えもいいのですが、
スポーツ選手から聞いたはなしとかが、すごく効果的に挿入されていてそれがとてもすばらしいと思います。
