　２０年前、タルコフスキーの映画を見た後、本を手に取ると冒頭から　全く違う話ではと戸惑い・・古本を手に入れこのほどやっと通読しました。濃いい話です。読み終えて、４７歳の私には　ゾーン（怪異なものが　あちこちにある世界）はＳＦ的時空でなく、何が起こるかわからない人生そのものではないかとすら感じました。
　基本的には奇妙奇天烈な話なのに、闇の古売屋たち（ストーカー）のディテール、酒場、逃亡、取引の各シーンが非常にリアルでかつての社会主義ソビエトの日常を活写したのかと錯覚するほど。このリアリィティがゾーンという超自然（というも　おろかなほど　すべてを超越している世界）の物語に現実味を与えています。読んだ後ゾーンは実は　いまここにある　それを　普通は知らないだけとすら思えます。２０世紀を代表するＳＦというだけでなく、２０世紀を代表する文学といっては賞賛しすぎ？

　私たちは、太古の昔から我々人類以外の知的存在にあこがれを抱き続けてきた。
神に対して、あるいは地球外知的生命体に対して。
もし、その存在に接触できたとしたら。
そのとき感じるのは、我々は孤独ではないという思いだろうか。
それとも、何か素晴らしいことが起こるに違いないという期待だろうか。

　しかし、その存在が、私たちの理解が及ばぬほどの高レベルに達していて、
しかも、我々が自分の靴を這う蟻など気にかけないように、その存在も我々のことなどまったく眼中にないとしたら。
私たちは疎外感を感じないだろうか。それどころか彼らに対して憎しみすら抱くようになるかもしれない。

この本の中で、そんな存在に接触した人々は、それこそ人間の靴にしがみついた蟻のように運ばれて行く。
　ところで、この物語の後半にでてくる×××(ＳＦにこれがでてくるとは!)の不気味さは最高。

　時空が歪んでいて何が起こるかわからない地帯。
一度中に入ったら二度と帰れないかもしれない。
もしそんなものがあったら…
　ところがそんな世界に烈しい魅力を感じて身を投じて行く一群の男達がいる。
　単純な構想からストルガツキー兄弟の想像はふくらんで行きます。
　タルコフスキーの映画は全く違う話なのですが行っても行ってもどこにも
たどり着かない世界、いつまでも雨の降り続ける世界、そんな夢うつつのよ
うなこの本の世界を借りたもう一つのお話しなのでしょう。

　中で何が起きているのか分けのわからないまま価値のある成果を得られる
ことがあるあたりまるでコンピューターの操作のような感じでもあります。
