Steroids are bad -- everybody knows that -- or do they? This movie takes a look at steroid use, abuse, and misinformation. The filmmaker was a successful amateur powerlifter who worked at the famous Gold's Gym where Arnold, and Hulk Hogan trained. He briefly tried steroids, but quit because he felt awful (emotionally) using them. His older and younger brothers used steroids over many years (for football, pro wrestling, and power lifting), so he is in quite an interesting position to make this movie. Bigger Stronger Faster explores critically a number of questions: Why are steroids illegal? Are they dangerous? If so, how dangerous? This film challenges a lot of popularly held beliefs on steroids, and it does it in an entertaining way.
Some things that disappointed me -- no English subtitles (though I was happy enough to have the Japanese titles). Also, on the back of the DVD, it has a picture of a former Mr. Olympia, apparently being interviewed. This interview did not make it in to the movie, and the DVD has no extras.
A sad note about the movie -- the older brother "Mad Dog", passed away after the film was made. Apparently it was drug abuse related (though not necessarily steroids, as he had trouble with other drugs).
