ポールのように、多作なら、ベストもわからないでもないが、ジョンの場合は、活動は80年までで、
作品数も少ない。少ないが、一曲の充実度は、ほんとにすごいが。
このベストに選曲された曲は、はっきりいって全部素晴らしい。Beatlemania兼おっぱい弁護士の小生が言うのだから、それは確かだが、
曲数が少ない。他にもたくさん素晴らしい曲がある。ベストなど聴かずとも、オリジナル作品を聴いて欲しい。（決して多いわけじゃないのだから）
ジョン＝レノンをベストで〜という考え方自体が、私には理解できない。
ジョンの曲は全曲聴いてください。オールド＝タイマーとして、アドバイスしておきます。
正統なベストかどうかは、この際問題でない。
それでも尚、ベストにこだわる、残念なリスナーには、デジタル＝リマスタリングされ、曲数も多い、レノン＝レジェンドをおすすめする次第。

　ジョンが凶弾に倒れたあと、様々な形でジョンの作品と称するものが発売された。僕は、それを忌々しく思いながらも、購入して来た。
　ジョンのベスト盤と称する色んな作品が出回ってきているが、この作品だけは１９７５年にジョン自身が選択した唯一のベスト盤である。
　Beatlesで言うなら「赤盤」「青盤」みたいなものである。
　これは、正統なジョンのベストである。

曲数が他のベストより少ないのは事実ですが、
逆にこっちのほうが聴き易いのでは？
◇収録時間が５０分もないので気軽に聴ける。
もちろんオリジナルアルバムを順々に聴くのがベストだけれど、
とりあえずジョンレノンの代表曲をさらっと聴きたい、というビギナーにはうってつけかと。
…これを聴いて、ジョンの歌をもっと聴いてみたいと、
リスナーの興味心を促進するのが、様々あるベスト盤のひとつの正当な形かとも思うし。
このアルバムはあくまで最初の一歩として、それからオリジナルアルバム集めてじっくり鑑賞する。
そんな、いわば親切真っ当な道案内的作品として、十分評価出来ると思う。
