コルトレーンの編集盤は毎年のように出ていますが、その中でも
出色の出来と言えるのが本作です。

気に入った点を列挙してみます。

●収録音源レーベルをプレスティッジとインパルスに限定していること。
●「至上の愛（インパルス）」「コルトレーン（プレスティッジ）」「メディテーションズ（インパルス）」「ソウルトレーン（プレスティッジ）」「ジャイアント・ステップス（アトランティック）」「マイ・フェイヴァリット・シングス（アトランティック）」など、アルバム構成が完璧であり、一曲を取り出すことができないアルバムからは、楽曲を収録していないこと。
　（つまり本作でコルトレーンに入った方は、次は上記アルバムを買っていけば良い。その次は、好きな期を極めるも良し、フリージャズ時代に進むも良し。）
●有名ミュージシャンがゲストで加わった音源を一通り押さえたこと。
●１曲の演奏時間が長過ぎるし、またコンピレーションのバランスも崩れるためフリージャズ時代の音源は外したこと。
●曲調が多様であること。
●プレスティッジ時代は、１曲が傑出しているアルバムから、その１曲を選んでいること。
