ファンには有名な話だがもともと２枚組で発表される予定が諸事情でシングルアルバムになったもの。
タイトル曲の疾走感はいつ聞いても素晴らしいが、半分ボツにして昔の二番煎じの曲優先でむりやりまとめた感があり全体としては散漫。後にAFTERGLOWで発表された"HELLO MY OLD FRIEND"など何故ボツなのか理解に苦しむ。なお幻の２枚組全曲が米サイトに掲載されてました。いつの日か聞けるのでしょうか？

　「ホールドオンタイト」のヒットが印象的な前作「タイム」から2年ぶりにリリースされた作品、このアルバムはアメリカで大ヒットに至らず、そのために一般的な評価は「ディスカバリー」や「アウトオブザブルー」にくらべるとかなり低いようだが、（それでもこの作品は英国では最高4位を記録している。）僕はELOではこのアルバムが一番好きだ。理由はビートルズのようなすごくメロディアスな曲がいくつかあり、当時このようなサウンドを作れるグループはまれだったからである。このアルバムはシングル曲「ロックンロールイズキング」がシングルヒットしているが、この曲はアルバムの雰囲気を全く伝えてないし、2弾シングルの「フォーリトルダイヤモンド」もこのアルバムの中では浮いた感じの曲だと思う。このアルバムはレコードのA面によい曲が集中していて、「シークレットメッセージ」の切ないメロディーはこのバンドの全曲の中でも最高の出来だと思う。2曲目、3曲目も普通のポップソングではないし、4曲目は本当に天国に舞い上がってしまうような曲だと思う。80年代初めの流行を考えると若干古臭いような感じは否めないが、2006年現在今一度振り返り、検証が求められる作品だと思う。電車男のベスト盤ではこのアルバムから1曲しか取り上げられなかったが、「トワイライト」でELOに目覚めた10代〜20代の若い人でビートルズが好きな人はこのアルバムを購入してみてください。価値があると自信を持ってお勧めできる作品です。

前作タイムから２年後の作品でセールス的には不発であった…が、しかし楽曲のクオリティが低いということではなく、むしろもっと評価が高くてもいい作品である。レコード会社との契約のトラブルなどでこの時期の発表となったのだと思うが、エレクトロニクスの導入が結果としてジェフ・リン一人いれば事足りてしまうということを知らしめてしまったのは否定できないのだが…。でも個人的にはすごく好きなアルバムで特に３曲目は自分の一時期のテーマ曲といってもよい位思い入れのある曲だ。一曲一曲のクオリティはタイムと比べても遜色のない仕上がりであると思う。
当時のポスト・パンク、ニュー・ウエーブといった第二次ブリティッシュ・インベンションの嵐が吹きすさぶ中、アメリカでのセールスが伸びなかったのはなんら不思議ではないのだ。売れないから悪い作品なのではない、名作でも売れない時はあるということだ。
