秋の夜に食べるチョコレートのような深い味わいのある作品です。
ああ、これ以上食べたらまた太っちゃう、でももうひとかけだけ・・・。
この本を読んでいるときの私がまさにその状態。
ああ、これ以上読んだら明日仕事中にまた眠くなっちゃう、でももう１ページだけ・・・。

とにかくページを読み進めるうちに、次の展開が知りたくて知りたくて、通勤中、帰宅中、ご飯を食べた後、眠る前・・・と日々が「ザ・スタンド」一色になりました。私の読むペースが遅いせいもあるのかもしれないのですが、ボリュームもたっぷりで１週間この第１巻に費やしました。

映画のジャンルでいうならパニックものでしょうか。
１年前のＳＡＲＳを彷彿させたりもします。
あの病気が制圧されずに広がっていったらまさにこんな感じになるのかなぁ、と不謹慎なことを考えてみたりもして。
登場人物が沢山出てきます。それぞれの歩んできた人生が細かに描かれていて、自分と似たようなタイプの人間を見つけることができるかもしれません。

今２巻を途中まで読んでいるのですが、１巻を上回るおもしろさです。
一人でも沢山の人にこの面白さを伝えたくて全巻読み終える前にレビュー投稿してしまいました。

キングの長編にしては珍しくホラーやSFという要素はあまり強くありません。
物語は細菌兵器の漏洩によって人類がほとんど死んでしまったということから始まります。
もぬけの殻と化したアメリカで人々は導かれるように集まっていきます。
善の側に集まるものもあれば、悪の側に集まるものもあって・・・。

現在とはまったく異なった世界を描写する能力はさすがにキング。
そして登場人物の多さもザ スタンドのおもしろさをよりいっそう盛り上げています。
物語のスケールの多きさではダークタワーといい勝負。とってもおもしろいです。

人類存亡の危機という壮大な設定の中に、多くの個性的な登場人物が詳細に描かれており、そのどの人物にも感情移入できるという、キングならではの素晴らしさが出ている作品です。途中でお気に入りのキャラクターが死んでしまったりしても最後まで読んで下さい！文庫本で全5巻あり、長い物語ですが中だるみすることなく一気に読めます。
