戦後、アメリカの影響を色濃く受けていた横浜という街、国際色豊かな若い世代の交流、ロックの勃興、ベトナム戦争の影..。そうした背景をギュっと凝縮して、その音楽性やキャラクターで心ある者に大きな影響を与えたゴールデンカップスのというバンドの軌跡。当時のメンバーや関係者の証言、ヨコハマという街の風俗が丹念に、しかし生々しくまとめられていて、リアルタイムでカップスを体験したわけでない僕でもワクワクしました。流行とか関係ない、ちょっと悪いアンダーグラウンドな文化、そういう匂いがする本です。

　カップスについては、残念ながらリアルタイムで経験していない。やはり、加部正義とミッキー吉野が在籍していたということが、多くのロックファン同様にカップスに興味をもった理由だ。こうして、当時の状況を読んでみると、やはり、プロデビュー後は少なからず自分達の方向性と違った音楽をやらなければいけない状況になったこと、そのことがカップスのメンバーチェンジの原因となっていたことなどが分かる。自分が興味を持って読んだ部分は加部正義に関する部分だ。「すぐに雲隠れをする」「ボンドを吸う」。当時、加部がどのような行動をしていたのかよく分かった。目立つことを嫌い、スポットライトから外れてしまう。しかし、ベースを弾かせれば超絶テク。土屋昌巳が押しかけでカップスのボーヤをしたときのエピソードなども微笑ましい。家出をしてボーヤ入りを志願したところ、デイブ平尾にはクソミソ言われたらしいが、加部に「いいじゃん、一緒にくれば」と言われカップスのボーヤになったとの話。加部の人間性が分かる。加部正義は「心やさしき自由人」なんだな、と改めて思った。

　ゴールデン・カップスをリアルタイムで知っており、ＧＳブームの頃に彼らが残した音楽を聴きなおしているが、「ゴールデンカップスの音楽って、そんなに凄かったっけ？」と言うのが率直な感想です。凄くカッコ良くて、ルイズルイス加部がロケット型のベースをブンブン弾く姿なんかは、感涙モノだったけど。他のＡ級ＧＳ（勿論アイドル系やカルト系等のＢ級・Ｃ級ＧＳは問題外として）と比べて、音楽的には、伝説になるほど突出したものでは無かった様に思います。むしろ私は、解散してからデイブ平尾が出したアルバム、「横浜ルネサンス」の中の「ジョー・ジャコミン」とか、エディ播の「ヨコハマ・ホンキートーク・ブルース」の方がずっと興味が有って、今でも時々聴いています。

　で、以上は、ただ私の趣味を書いただけです。本としては、とても良く出来ているので、星５つにしました。
