アメリカンロックの雄トム・ペティ＆ザ・ハートブレーカーズのベストアルバムだけあって、聴き応えたっぷりです。1曲目の名曲「アメリカンガール」から、トム・ぺティ独自の歌いまわしと軽快にドライブするバンド・サウンドが展開されます。途中でトム・ぺティのソロ名義の3曲を含むことでこのアルバムの価値が高められていることは疑いありません。

ひとつ物言いをすると80年代半ばに発売された「let me up」というアルバムからの選曲がなくて残念です。（アナログのLPをよく聴きました）
しかしながらベストアルバムとしてはなかなかの秀作で、今聞くと彼等が80年代アメリカンロックの裏番的存在だったことがよく解ります。
