思わず気が抜けてしまうような、そんな音楽です。
フニャラフニャラのボーカルにチャンチャカチャンのバンドで
なんとも言えないヘッポコ具合がたまらなく愛おしい。。。

デイヴ・フリードマンがプロデュースを手掛けた2ndよりも、自分としてはこの1st(2005年作)のほうが好きですね。1st特有の大きく外に開かれた感じの風通しの良さが本当に好きです。また1曲単位で見ても、こちらのほうがキャッチーな曲が多いため、取っ付きやすさもあると思います。そして、このバンドのへろへろしながらも、力強い開放感を感じさせるという特色は、ヴェルベッツやテレビジョンそしてソニック・ユース、オブ･モントリオールなどから脈々と繋がるシーンの最新版と捉えて間違いはないでしょう。

レコード会社と契約していないという独自のスタンスで、これから先、彼らがどういう音を奏でていくのかは、まだ分かりませんが、とりあえずこの1stは、アメリカのアンダーグラウンドシーンの歴史に刻まれるだけの名盤であると確信します。

アルバム一枚を最後までか聞いて、
突然思った。
ああ、これはパンクなんだ、
と。
レーベルに所属しないという方法で既存の音楽業界を否定しているようなところも、その現われなんだろう。

ネットなどの普及によって、パンク的であることはより身近になった気がする。
曲はどれも自由を心から謳歌している感じがすると思う。

今こそ、
フリーダム！と真に叫べる状況が出現しつつあるのかもしれない。
いや、かも知れないではなく、きっとそうだ！

クラップ・ユア・ハンズ・セイ・ヤーを聞いて、私の心は少し解放された。
