キャノンボールという音楽家は周囲の人々を幸せにする。
バンドのメンバーしかり、亡くなった今でもＣＤで我々を。

音楽を楽しむということの原始的な愉悦を再確認させてくれる。
このアルバムでは２番のバラードがその典型だと思う。
彼のアルト・サックスの響きは、天馬が空を駆けるように鮮やかで闊達だ。
ふくらみのある艶やかな音色は、高度な技巧の裏打ちを感じさせないかのように、
さりげなく、それでいていつまでも耳の奥に残る。

コルトレーンとの息がぴったり合った本作は、キャノンボールの作品の中でも白眉の仕上がりになっている。コルトレーンとの競合とシンクロが生み出す、激しくもきらびやかな音色は実に聴き応えがある。

１曲目は駆け出すような豪放な吹きっぷりが心地よい、コルトレーンとの真剣勝負。２曲目のバラードで見せる伸びのあるサックスの音色は、叙情にあふれ、疲れた心に染み入ってくる。
全体的に奏者が楽しんで気持ち良く演奏しているのが伝わってくる、最高のアルバムである。

ボクにとって、このアルバムは、誰がなんと言おうとキャノンボールさんのワンホーンによる「2.アラバマに星落ちて」です。ウィントン･ケリーさんの美しいイントロに続いて、キャノンボールさんの歌いっぷりはもう文句なし！絶妙にじらす音出しには胸を締め付けられます。
