　『キャサリン・マッキノンと語る―ポルノグラフィと売買春』は、この重要問題について書かれた、これまでになく手軽に読める本として、とても意義のある出版だと思う。理論と実践がうまく絡みあっていて、久々に明解で気持ちのいい本を読んだという感じがする。

　本は２部構成になっており、第１部は、アメリカの著名なフェミニスト法学者、キャサリン・マッキノンが2001年１月に来日したさいに行なわれた対話集会の記録をもとにしている。話題は、マッキノンが果敢な反ポルノグラフィ運動の中心として活躍するにいたった背景からはじまる。話題はさらに、旧ユーゴ内戦で組織的レイプにあった女性の法的救済の問題や、沖縄の米兵にレイプされた女性の裁判にまでおよぶ。

　なかでも、特筆に値すると思われるのが、いま流行りの「セックスワーク」論をマッキノンが、わかりやすい言葉で批判するくだりだろう。「性的サービスを売るのはマッサージ業と同じで、当事者の自由だ」「売買春を違法にしているからセックスワーカーへの暴力や差別が放置されている」といった議論に、疑問を感じつつもしぶしぶ黙らざるをえなかった人々に、ぜひ読んでほしいと思う。翻訳も実にこなれていて、一気に読み通すことができた。

　第２部は、日本の状況の解説である。５つのコラムとともに、日本におけるポルノ・売買春による被害状況がよくわかって、とてもよかった。日本のテレビや新聞が、風俗情報や雑誌の広告をのせていることの意味が、「ふつう」の人にも理解できると思う。私自身、この本のおかげで、この問題に関してすっきりと理解できた。「リベラル」とか、「表現の自由」とか、そういう言い方で目が曇らされている人にも、それから何も考えていなかった人にも、この本は受け入れられると思う。
