I had the fortunate experience of speaking to the Japan Vyatta user's group. I was very impressed by the presentations and the overall interest. Vyatta has grown to be a global community with users in more than 128 countries. Both the world and networks are changing rapidly. Open source is an inherently disruptive technology because it breaks down the traditional barriers between users and vendors. This change allows for the individual to solve their own problems in ways not possible with traditional proprietary software. But because open source software is newer than traditional software, it is often hard to find good sources of information. When I asked "what is the biggest barrier to adoption of Vyatta in Japan?" the consistent answer was the lack of technical information available in Japanese. Vyatta has many features and services but the complexity is daunting. This book and the active community of users will help tremendously in filling that gap.
