待ちに待った5巻、私は読んでいる途中で本を一度閉じてしまいました。今巻での2人の再会シーンに心があまりに揺さぶられて続きを読むのに落ち着きたかったからです。映画みたいな展開！素晴らしいです。私はもともとメイド云々よりも「19世紀ロンドン」が好きで読み始めたのですが、作者も愛してるであろうこの時代背景を忠実に描こうとされている真摯な姿勢がとてもよく表れてると思います。特に女性の体型。コルセットでくびれた腰、女性らしいラインのふくよかさ。いかにも漫画的なデフォルメされた体型ではないのです。それに今まではどちらかというと太めだった森さんのペンタッチですが、この巻よりより繊細に丁寧になっています。
さて、いよいよ周囲にも知れるようになってしまった2人の恋ですが立ちはだかる数々の障害をどう乗り越えるのかウィリアムのこれからの行動が気になるところです。2人のやりとりを見てると使い古された言葉ですが「純愛」という感じです。私はいろんな少女漫画を読みますが、最近のいきすぎた恋愛漫画なんかより全然ドキドキしますし、切なくなります。漫画の登場人物に感情移入して一喜一憂してしまうのはほんとに久しぶりです。もし読んでない方は是非読んでみて下さい。特に女性の方は表紙の先入観など捨てて是非。個人的には「貴族達のやりとり」と対比するとうってかわって日常的な「メイドや給仕達のやりとり」場面が大好きです。

いままで淡々と英国ライフを描いていた物語が、ここに来て急展開。登場人物も増え、この先二人の恋は一体どうなるのかはらはらしたまま次巻へ‥‥焦れったい所で終わってます（笑）。
切々と恋心を訴えるエマの手紙に、こちらまで胸がいたくなります。

5.0 out of 5 stars 作者の愛情のこもった、本当に丁寧なつくりの作品。, 2005/4/1
同人誌作家だった作者の実質的デビュー作であり初連載です。相当な生みの苦しみがあったそうで、エマの基本的な骨子ができるまでは、長い時間が掛かったそうです。が、この5巻になって、その骨子が非常によく出来たものであることがわかりました。

4巻で運命の再開を果たした、エマとウィリアム
社会的な立場という現実は有るものの、二人は愛情を確かめ合います。

非常に難しい立場にあるウィリアムですが、味方になってくれそうな大人も現れます。ウィリアムの両親の昔話から、頑固者の父の本当の心情が見え隠れしたり、物語に深みと厚みが出てきました。

特に、この巻からカット割などに映画的な演出が多く含まれるようになったように思います。細かい描写はもちろん、話の大きな流れも含めて、作者がこの作品と共に成長しているのも判ります。

エマの身づくろいに数ページを割いたり、作者の趣味も全開（笑

世の中に沢山ある、萌え~ な、ストーリーを想像して敬遠しているなら、それは完全なまちがいです（私がそうでした）。
