私はこの少年の事を知ったのはマイケル・ジャクソンの「Gone Too Soon」
という曲のショートフィルムでした。この曲はマイケルが彼に捧げた曲な
のですが、彼とどういうつながりがあったのか、そしてライアン・ホワイ
トという人はどんな人だったのか気になったのでこの本を読みました。
彼自身の手記なので、エイズという病気のつらさや苦しさ、まわりで支え
ていた人達のあたたかさがとても伝わってきました。エイズという病気が
まだ世間にあまり認知されていないころは感染への恐怖から人々は彼を偏
見の対象にしてしまいます。病気だけでもつらいのに、精神的にも相当つ
らく、そんな中、彼は本当に"闘った"と思います。マイケルやエルトン・
ジョンとの交流は本当に嬉しそうに書いてあり、この本を読む限りマイケ
ル・ジャクソンはマスコミやＴＶで言われているような人ではなく彼を支
えた一人の素晴らしいアーティストだと私は感じました。
この本は自分の考えを改めさせてくれる１冊だとおもいます。

エイズは怖い病気、それだけで終わっていないでしょうか。
どんなときに感染するのか？どんなときには感染しないのか？
語りかけるような口調で子供に正しい知識を与えてくれる本です。
