コンサート動員、CD売り上げともにうなぎ登りの伸びをみせる注目のヴァイオリニスト。こころにしみる音色のデビュー・アルバムが欧米で高く評価され、新録音では自信のようなものさえ感じられる。

譜面を見ることができないので、母親が一小節ずつ弾くピアノの音で楽譜を覚えているという川畠成道のディスクを聴いて、真っ先に頭に浮かんだのは、“真摯さ”という言葉である。そして、ディスクを聴き終わった時点で、その混じり気のない“歌心”に魅せられた。川畠は、ともすれば自らの歌や思いを嫋々と繰り広げたくなるような甘いメロディにおいても、決して趣味の悪さに陥ることなくストレートに歌い抜いていく。そこには、必要以上に声高な主張やテクニックの誇示はなく、私心を排するかのように作品と対峙している若きヴァイオリニストの姿がある。全11曲の中で特に印象的だったのは、「アヴェ・マリア」や「エストレリータ」といったメロディアスな小品であり、ドヴォルザークの後輩にあたるフィビヒが書いたロマンティックな佳品「ポエム」に込められた優しげな風情も深く心に残った。ピアノを受け持っているピエナールの好サポートぶりも光っている。 (満津岡信育) --- 2001年01月号
