　読後、もし日本でも戦死兵が出始めれば、このような草の根反戦行動が大々的に起き得るのだろうか？と考えた。
　主人公シーハンが、ブッシュへの題名の直接問いかけを願ってはじまった個人的居座りが、反戦市民運動・メディアをあわせ全米へと広がっていくさま。
　イラク反戦デモは日本でも起こったが、メディアの扱いは小さく、今も続くイラク戦争に対しての抗議の声は殆ど聞こえなくなってしまった。
　現在でもブッシュは「妻と飼い犬しか支持しなくなっても、戦争は続ける」と断言していると言うのに・・・
　水俣病の際も、患者に対して「チッソ様に申し訳がないから、患者は水俣から出て行け！」との言葉を浴びせる国民性である事から察するに、戦死日本兵の母が同様の行動を行なったとしても、殆どの人は無視を決め込むか「非国民！」と声高に叫ぶのだろう。
　政府に反対してでも、行動を伴った自己主張ができる米の言論の自由の奥深さについて考えさせられた。
