城山 三郎
1927‐2007。名古屋生れ。海軍特別幹部練習生として終戦を迎えた。一橋大卒業後、愛知学芸大に奉職、景気論等を担当。1957(昭和32)年、『輸出』により文学界新人賞、翌年『総会屋錦城』で直木賞を受け、経済小説の開拓者となる。吉川英治文学賞、毎日出版文化賞受賞の『落日燃ゆ』等、多彩な作品群は幅広い読者を持つ。2002(平成14)年、経済小説の分野を確立した業績で朝日賞を受賞(本データはこの書籍が刊行された当時に掲載されていたものです)

大原自身は決して意図したものではないだろうが、
大原の行った行為は、今日巷で溢れている安っぽい社会的貢献とは全く異なる。
自らに関わる現実的な利益を大切にすることは企業であれ個人であれ当然であるが、
社会に同じく生きるものである以上、
常に社会的貢献と社会的良心という二つの事を忘れてはいけないと再認識させてくれた一冊であった。

まず、はじめに断っておかなければならないことがあります。それは、この本に描かれている時代は、多少「昔」と言わざるを得ないことです。だがしかし、何を掲げ、何を目指し、そして何に突き動かされて仕事をしているのか、これらのことについて深く考えさせられます。ビジネスを動かす１人の男として、間違ってもサラリーをもらう男としてではなく、常日頃、事業の一端を握り、仕事をする自分自身を見直す良いきっかけを与えてくれました。自らを突き動かすもの、もっと大きな観点を抱いてビジネスに取り組みたいと感じます。

明治期から大正期にかけての日本に、このような開明的な経済人がいたのか、と驚嘆させられる。「資本家と労働者は、幸福を分かち合い、手を携えて成長する同志である」という孫三郎の言葉は、経営の真髄をあますところなく表現している。将来の起業家、経営者にとっては凡百の経営学書よりも著者が描く孫三郎像に学ぶところが多いはずである。
