平易な山川教科書といった内容。巻頭数頁はカラーの写真があるものの、本編は一色刷りで図説や写真が少なく、解説もあっさり。なので重要ポイントに力点が置かれてなく、平板に解説が進む。わざわざ日本史の本を読もうとする社会人なら向学心のある方でしょう。受験から解放されているからこそ、歴史的建造物や歴史上の人物の写真を見て納得をしたり、感銘を受けたりするのでは。
「昔、山川の教科書を使っていたが今教科書を読むには（買うには）抵抗がある。しかし自分は山川のファンだ。」という方が買われると懐かしさも手伝うのかもしれませんが、個人的には……。

有名書店なら山川の詳説日本史くらい置いてあります。社会人用とか言ってちょこっとだけ薄くしただけですから、もういちど読むなら素直に教科書読みましょうよ。

　高校生の時に使っていた山川の日本史ということで
懐かしさも手伝って読んでみました。高校生用の教科
書と違うのは分量が抑えられていて読みやすくなって
いることです。学生のときには読んでいて眠くなった
覚えがありましたが、これはあっさりと読めました。
　記述の仕方は教科書も出している山川だけあって客
観的でよくまとまっていると思うのですが、読み手と
しては、もう学生ではないので「もうちょっと詳しく
知りたい」という思いがあり、豆知識や多小主観的に
なったとしても著者の独自の見解があるほうが読み物
としては面白かったろうに、と思います。その点では
すでに類書として出ている「手にとるように分かる日
本史」（かんき出版）や「日本史のおさらい」（自由
国民社）と比べて少し面白みがかけるかなと思いまし
た。
　ただ、高校用の教科書よりもだいぶ平易に書かれて
いるのでこれから日本史を勉強する方が読んだり、山
川の教科書を使っていらした方が読むと頭の整理に役
立つんじゃないかなと思います。
