Oh well. Anyway, I believe that this is the best text availible for people wanting to learn Japanese. This text only has Japanese in it. You must by the translation and grammar text separately. You can also buy the CDs. And the workbook(s)... Some people might be annoyed (It'll run you about 15,000 yen to get everything for just the first series), but I didn't mind the expense at all. Buy what you need. None of it is a waste (though I found the kanji books to be annoying, but that's a different matter). The presentation of a chapter is nice: Sample sentences illustrating the grammar point(s); Sample question/answers illustrating the grammar; A conversation; the grammar broken down in boxes (SO nice), Practice, organized by grammar point, and building confidence; Listening (requires the CDs, but you can skip the first section and still complete the rest without the listening; and finally remediation. Everything you need is here, especially if you're preparing for a written test. I've recommended this text often and without guilt. They are full of illustrations and DIRECTLY match the English translation text (I imagine it would be the same for the dozen or so other languages the text seems to have been translated into!). Excellent. I wish my texts in high school and university both had been this good!
