英語力をアップさせるための方法論が具体的に書いてあり，非常に参考になる。
筆者の著書を読むのは初めてなので，私には役にたったが，筆者の類書を読んでいる人は，
わざわざ買うまでもないであろう。ただ，彼の姿勢を商業主義と非難するのはたやすいが，売れっ子のうちに類書を次々と出すのは，彼に限らないし，資本主義の世界ではあたりまえであろう。類書を買わなければいいだけである。私も同じ著者の似たような本は買うことはない。
ところで，この本のはしがきに，「英語を３日間で話せる」方法があれば，自分が教えてもらいたい，地道な努力しかないと説く著者の姿勢に大いに共感する。
彼の説く勉強方法は，努力と工夫につきる。
非常にためになる本であろう。

英語教材なども手掛ける著者による英語勉強法の本。
Listening, Reading, Speaking, Writingの４技能をバランスよく身につける方法を紹介。
特に日本人が苦手とするSpeakingやWritingについて厚く書かれている。

教材の選び方（例えば、英字新聞や英語雑誌は難しすぎて挫折しやすい。訳注のついた教材を使った方がよいなど。）単語の暗記法なども紹介されているので、これから英語を勉強しようと思っている人のよき道しるべになる。
上級の人には、あまり目新しい勉強法はないかもしれない。自分が苦手とする分野について読むだけでもよいと思う。また、お勧めの教材をもう少し多く紹介して欲しかった。

人気予備校講師らしく、非常に分かりやすくやさしく読める構成と内容になっている。
本の主な構成としてはlistening, speaking, reading, writingの４分野に分けたうえで、
それぞれの学習法を筆者ご自身の学習体験から有効なものを提示したかたちになっている。

今では筆者は有名予備校講師として、またご自身の英語力の高さとして受験生のみ
ならず社会人相手にも著名である。しかし本を読んでみると、著者自身も学生時代から
ずば抜けて英語ができたわけでもなく、「普通の人」と同じように受験をして、
主にspeakingやlisteningにも苦労されて「努力で」英語を上達させてきたことがわかる。
だからこそ、色々な学習法を試してこられたのだろう。

本書では筆者の経験した学習法の中で有効なものを紹介し、その中でも根幹になる学習
は「音読」であるべきだと主張している。また単語熟語もしっかりと「覚える」ことが
重要だと述べている。

本の最後には筆者自身の英語学習体験記も付けられていて、筆者の明るさ、前向きさ
が伝わってくる本である。
