きいろいぼうしのおじさんに、自転車をプレゼントされて超ゴキゲンなジョージ。さっそく街へ出て、ハプニングが起こります。その後、サーカス団にスカウトされたことによって、またもやそこでハプニングが起こり、物語はもうひと盛り上がりするのです。

自分の興味がおもむくままに行動するジョージは、失敗して泣いたり、肩を落としたり、でもそんな姿がたまらなく可愛いのです！　失敗するたびにちゃんと良いことをして名誉挽回するジョージ！　がんばれジョージ！　ラストでちゃんと大好きなきいろいぼうしのおじさんが迎えにきてくれます。ほんとにあと味の良い絵本です。（あと味の良さは、イラストを通して小さい子供にもちゃんと伝わります）

2歳になったばかりの息子に読み聞かせるには、ちょっと長すぎて飽きるかな、という予想に反し最後まで喜んで聞いてくれました。かわいらしいこざるのキャラクターに加え、前半は大好きな自転車が出てくるし、折り紙の折り方まで書いてある！後半はサーカスが舞台で、これまた子供が大好きな動物が沢山出てくる。字はまだ読めないけれど、息子が自力で読む気になった初めての本です。

ジョージが黄色い帽子のおじさんの注意をすぐに忘れて暴走するのは、
毎回のお定まりで、これがないと、おさるのジョージになりません。

ただ、それにしても、自転車で街に出てきたジョージに、
自分の新聞配達の半分を手伝わせようとしたお兄さん、
あなたはお猿さんと同等またはそれ以下です。
