　同書は筆者が孫に日本国憲法を語る内容 になっている。私も「この国が好き」だ。しかし、私にはまだ孫がいない。仮に男の子だとしたら憲と名づけ、次のように語りたい。

　「憲君、今から３０年数前におじいちゃんが中欧ヨーロッパの、ある国に留学していた時に日本の憲法について忘れられない思い出がある。まだベトナム戦争が、さなかの時代だった。今も外国では戦火がやまないね。

　大学構内で、ドイツから留学していた友人が「君の国がうらやましい。軍隊がないからさ」と真顔で語りかけてきた。おじいちゃんは突然の話に戸惑いながら「でも軍隊に似た自衛隊はあるけど」と応じた。しかし、彼は「でも軍隊は憲法で禁止されているだろ。徴兵制度もないから、人殺しの訓練をして戦場へ行かずにすむ」と付け加えた。それを聞いておじちゃんは驚いたね。　
　　　　　　　　　
　彼以外にも多くの国の留学生は、戦争を放棄した日本の憲法を褒めていた。当時のおじいちゃんは憲法を取り立てて気にしていなかったので、改めて徴兵制度のない国に生まれて幸せだと思い、うれしかったな。　
　　　　　　　
　憲君、今の憲法があったから『６０年間戦争をしなかったこの国はスゴイ』ぞ。おかげで日本が仕掛けた戦争で日本人は誰も死んでいない。

　でもね、憲君。最近は改憲が声高に叫ばれ、自衛隊が海外に派遣される怪しい時代になってきた。世界に誇れる平和憲法は、みんなの力で守り、日本を再び戦争をする国にしてはならないと、あどけない君の笑顔を見て、思いを新たにしている。おじいちゃんも経験したことのない戦争に君を取られてたまるか」と。

　同書を読み私も自分の体験を、こうして孫に語り継ぎたい衝動に駆られた。

　『がんばらない』の著者の名医が今度は自分の言葉で憲法を語ろうという処方箋を書いてくださった。誰にでも平和憲法の下で60年も暮らせば、同書の語り口を借りて、語りたい体験は、一つや二つはあるであろう。誠に価値ある逸品だ。

「60年間、ひとりも戦場で死んでいない。｣

日本は、６０年間、｢戦場｣で｢戦闘行為｣によって｢兵士｣を１人も殺してい
ません。このことは誇るべきことではないでしょうか。

様々な事実をごちゃ混ぜにして考えたのでは、素晴らしい点を見逃してし
まいます。「60年間、ひとりも戦場で死んでいない。｣という事実を知る
ことは、日本の美点のみを強調して、他の事実に目をつぶってしまうこと
とは違います。

よい点はよいと素直に考えれば、もっと日本のよい点が見えてくるのでは
ないでしょうか。高慢でもなく、卑屈でもなく、客観的に読むならば、本
書は自国のすばらしさを教えてくれると思います。

　「戦争が好きだった国が　６０年間も戦争をしませんでした。　日本国の兵隊として　６０年間、ひとりも人を殺していない。」一遍の偽りもさしはさまない真実です。（戦場で人が死んでいない･･･では残念ながらありませんが）
　この本は絵本形式で書かれており、大人でも子供でもすっと読めます。實おじいちゃんから、孫のBAKUくんへの語りかけとなっています。この絵本をきっかけに、小さい子には小さい子なりに平和がもたらす幸せについて語りかけることができると思います。大人びてきた子供たちにも彼・彼女が生まれてきてくれた幸せな日の記憶とあわせて、この本について一緒に考えてみないと語りかけることができると思います。私の息子はまだ１歳１０ヶ月、この本を一緒に読めるようになる日を楽しみに大切にとっておこうと思います。
