子どもの頃、電車に興味のない女の子でも電車の擬音は誰に教わったか「がたんごとん」だったはず。「がたんごとん」と言うたびに喜ぶ息子。
それは繰り返される言葉の持つリズムの他に、親が受ける「懐かしの心地よさ」が子どもに伝染していくのかも？なんて思ったりしました。

当時1歳9ヶ月の息子に、この本を毎日何度も読んでくれといわれ辟易することも正直ありましたが、本の内容が短いので待っててね、とは言わず忙しいときは特急列車並みの「がたんごとん」 夜寝る前は鈍行の「がたんごとん」と言って必ず読んであげることが出来ました。
どんな風に読んでも子どもには面白いみたいですね。

「しゅっしゅっぽっぽ」と言葉をかえてみたり、「乗せてくださ〜い」「いいですよ。順番守ってね」などと教育してみたり、勝手に創作できるのも楽しかったです。

対象年齢0-2才とありましたが、意外や３才娘が大層気に入りました。絵にも惹かれたようですし、「がたんごとん」「のせてくださーい」の繰り返しがとても楽しいようです。そして、読んでもらうだけでなく、自分が汽車、母がお客になったり、又その逆になって一緒に読み進めたりして、親子そろって楽しめました。かなり長いおはなしの絵本も聞ける子ですが、一方でこういったシンプルな絵本も好きなようです。私も、何度も読むうちに好きになってしまいました。

娘が生まれてすぐに購入。
最初はがたんごとんのリズムと
単純な色彩と絵を眺めているようでした。

ことばが増えるにつれ、「おちゃ（哺乳瓶）」「いぃご（りんご）」など指さし、
今では「いーっぱいのったねー」「とうちゃーくっ」と電車そのものを楽しんでいます。
最近は「がったんごぉん」と自分でページをめくっています。
