誰が呼んでも衝撃的な「失踪日記」（だからこそ、吾妻ひでおとしては異例の売り上げになった）と違って、吾妻ひでおを知らない人にはちっとも面白くないかもしれない。
だから「おすすめ」とはいかないが、個人的な評価は星10個ぐらいつけたいほど。

鬱といっても自殺未遂を企てるわけでもなく、これといった事件もなく（蛭子神建から手紙が来たのが一番の事件か）、連載がなくなったからといって焦るでもなく、「うつうつ」というより「ぐだぐだ」「だらだら」といった感じの日常生活が延々と続く。それが自分にとってはやたら面白い。
約７ヶ月分のことを書いた、200頁弱の本だが、「それだけで終わるのが惜しい」「この本をずっと読み続けていたい」と思ってしまう。

‘０４年７月から’０５年２月までの著者の日常を記した日記である。リハビリ日記といったところか。「事件なし、波乱なし、仕事なし」と帯に書いてある通り『失踪日記』程のインパクトはないのだがこれが面白い。かなり暗い話を「笑い」にまで昇華するのは前作と同じだが、ギャク漫画家の性とはいえやはり才能がある。爆笑ではなく著者の絵と淡々とした文章でクスッと笑わせる感じである。

前半には絵よりも文章が多く「絵日記」みたいだが、中盤以降はコマワリもきちんとされて「マンガ」になっている。

作品中には『失踪日記』が世に出るまでのエピソードが描かれているが、出版社の編集者も結構見る目がないんだなということがわかって結構笑えた。『失踪日記』が大ヒットした後の日記がないのが残念だが、次作のために残しておいたのだろうか、それとも書く必要がなくなったのだろうか…。

　ストーリーはない。神経症に苦しめられながら、読書とアイスクリームに逃避しつつ毎日をやり過ごす。傑作「失踪日記」が出版される直前までの苦しい１年半のようすが漫画仕立ての日記になっている。ところどころロリコン系イラストが散りばめられていて、リラックスした作品になっている。
　それにしてもコマが小さい。字も小さい。描けない描けないと作品中でのた打ち回っている割には、ちまちまと書き込まれている。このへんが、神経症的なこだわりなのだろうなあ。大ゴマでページを稼ぐという安易な解決法を思いつかないのか、許せないのか。
　なっとうキムチ卵ごはんや(実は私もやったことあります)麺類ばっかりの昼食メニューは、印象的。読書傾向や格闘技好きなどに吾妻との共通項を見つけるたび、少しヤバイかなと思う。アル中も自殺未遂も神経症も、意外にすぐ近くに潜んでいるのかも。
　他人に勧める種類のものではないが、私は興味深く読んだ。「失踪日記」の作者をもっと知りたい人向け。
