いつもながら著者の作品はスケールが大きくて、読み手を引き込む筆力に感心します。
今回の作品は、地上の人間同士の葛藤がドキュメントタッチで描かれている所に特徴があります。また、登場人物も多く、それらの人物の特徴も良く表されています。
但し残念なのは、会話のやり取りで誰が喋っているのか分からない点が多く見受けられることです。もう少し明確にすべきです。
機内の様子や時間的な流れの中で繰り広げられる展開は迫力もあり、よくぞここまで書けたなと感心するばかりでした。
航空小説分野に於ける力作がまた一つ増えましたね。

去年読んだ『査察機長』にくらべてサスペンス色がてんこ盛りで、著者のサービス精神を感じました。大きなトラブル（今回は車輪の破損と放射性物質の持ち込み）があったときに、機長やキャビン・アテンドがどう対応していくのか、そして交信とデータを受け取る地上のひとたちがどう動いていくのか、どきどきしながら読み進めていけました。
実際に何十年も飛行機を操縦してきた著者の物語だけに、リアリティは抜群です。また、こうしたことは本当に起こりうることなんだと、すこし怖くもなりました。

　「2つの問題解決に向けて、限られた時間の中で様々に案を出し、解決を探る」というストーリーにドキドキしながらもページをめくったが、コックピットや地上対策チームの緊張感が読者に伝わりにくい。
　もった派手なシチュエーションのハリウッド映画を、我々が見慣れてしまったせいか、キャプテンである著者と乗客でしかない読者との温度差の違いだろうか？
　地上での政治的状況をもっと深く書いておれば、より良かったのではないだろうか？
