   このエンジンは、外部に熱源を持つ外燃機関の一種。シリンダーの中で吸い込んだ熱が冷やされ、真空状態を作り出すことで、ピストンを動かしている。また、バルブの開閉は、クランク機構によってピストンと連動していて、フライホイール効果を加えることで、安定した回転が得られる。熱力学の基礎がわかる。エンジンはユニット化で着脱可能。組み立てには約2時間を要するが、特殊な工具は不要。美しいアルミダイキャスト製でインテリアにも。商品内容は組み立てキット、製品マニュアル。電池不要。燃料用のアルコールは別売り。

「真空エンジン」の名のとおり、熱気をシリンダーで冷却してピストンを引き込むことで動力を得る、現代のエンジンのおよそ逆の原理で動作するおもしろいエンジンです。そのぶん、パワーは非力です。
部品点数も多いです（とくにネジは最初から分類して、取り付けに注意してください）が、肝心なピストン、シリンダーとカムは完成していますからかなりスムースに動きます。スターリングエンジンのピストンがスチールウールだったのに比べると圧倒的な耐久性をもってますね。
クラッチの入れ替えで前進、後退もできる凝った仕組みで、動かすと子供に大うけです。
アルコールタンクがプラスチックなのが、ちょっと質感を落として残念だけど、全体としてはクラシカルかつシュールな感じで素敵です。
ただし、「エンジンはユニット化で着脱可能」と特徴に書かれていますが、取り外しても動力の取り出しが下部のギアなので、かなり困難な構造だとは思います。なにかに流用をお考えの方がおられるとしたら、よく見直してくださいね。

「スターリングエンジン」に続くシリーズです。組み立ても比較的簡単。空気の収縮・膨張を利用するエンジンです。シリンダー・ピストンが精巧に作られています。
しかしながら、子供には出来ません。させたくないです。お父さん、あなたが組み立てて下さい。準備する物は、部品の入ったビニールを開封する「はさみ」と、台所にあるアルミホイールを5cm×7cm、そして「燃料アルコール」（薬局で購入できます）です。
ドライバーも、六角レンチも準備されています。（笑）
エンジンが好きなひとなら、もうたまりません。ガチャガチャと、動き出すエンジンはなんとも言えないです。
燃料がなくなるまえに、火を消します。芯が燃え尽きてしまいますから・・・。
火を使うので、ちょっと注意がいります。
