惜しくもなくなられた三浦綾子氏の自叙伝、信仰の軌跡です。キリスト教に目覚めていく中で、神が人の心と人生にどのように影響を与えるかを闘病生活と重ねて描いています。愛する人を失った夜、ギブスベットに横臥し身動きもできずに号泣する著者、よりそうように亡き人の寝息が聞こえる・・・圧巻でした。

理不尽な体験に神の存在なぞ、と言いたい方はたくさんおられると思います。しかし、神の愛をそのような事柄を通して体験し、信じるようになったと確信をもって著者は語りかけます。生きる意味を探しておられる方へお薦めです。

初めて読んだ三浦綾子さんの本が、この本でした。実は3部作の最後なのですが、エッセイ風で読みやすくなっています。

まだ学生のころ、この本に書かれている「自由とは何か」について感銘を受けた記憶があります。たとえば、手当たり次第に女性とセックスを繰り返している男性が居たとして、「自分は自由だから何をしてもいいのだ」という例を出し、彼を「自由ではない」としています。彼には、「女性と関係を持つ自由もあれば、持たない自由もある」と。

買ってから何年たっても、読み直している本です。
キリスト教に抵抗がある方も、ぜひ読んでみてください。

この本を読んだきっかけは、三浦綾子の代表作、塩狩峠や、氷点などを読んで、涙をし、作家『三浦綾子』について知りたくなったからであります。
『道ありき』『この土の器をも』につづく自伝的作品の三部作、第三作目です。

もっとも驚いたというか、心の共感を得た箇所がありました。それは愛について。愛のさまざまについてです。
私自身、『愛って何？』と常に考えてました。

どんなに好きな人に対しても、『大好きだよ』とはいえるのに、どうしても『愛してるよ』とは、いえなかったのです。違和感があります。

さて、愛って何？と聞かれたときに正確に答えられる人はいますか？
相手を愛しいと想うこと？一緒にいたいと想うこと？
恋人に尽くした時、笑顔など、見返りは求めてない？
そうだとしたら、相手を好きだと言う　自分の感情を自己満足させるための自己愛なのかもしれない・・。と本書は語る。

そして、愛とは、人のために命を捨てるほどの厳しさを持つものであると、三浦綾子さんは言っています。
そんな愛について。また、人間がいかに罪深く、弱く、愛がなく、不自由な、そしてむなしい存在であるのか、またそんな人間の救いについても書いてある一冊です

悲しみの時も、喜びのときもともに光り輝く顔を上げてあなたの生涯をゆたかに生きてみませんか　と作品はむすんでいます。
この著者の三浦綾子さんは、過酷な生涯だったのにもかかわらず、あふれるばかりにやさしい。この本は優しい。
